December 15, 2025 | Mark Luis Foster
We’ve had a busy December at the HOA Leadership Network, with near record attendance at all of our chapter meetings. We do realize that attendance is driven by the topic that’s featured, and sometimes it’s the time of year. Traditionally, December has been pretty slow, despite the topic. But — when insurance is on the agenda, it’s a major attraction!
Eric Skarnes, president of Insurance Warehouse, has been giving a terrific presentation at chapter meetings this month, and it’s the last one for the month, in Bloomington on Tuesday, 12/16. Part of his set-up for the presentation is to talk about significant weather-related issues that have impacted insurance rates nationwide, and I’ve included the 2025 “disasters” slide that he uses, below.
Most of our HOA members have reported significant spikes in HOA master insurance the past five years. We ask them to raise their hands during the chapters and it’s rare to see anyone not acknowledge a huge spike. Some HOAs, however, are seeing a flattening or even a decrease this year after taking some drastic action, like going from “all in” insurance to “bare walls,” which passes more of the risk to the homeowner.
I’ve also uploaded his entire presentation of slides to the Resource Hub on our website. I do plan to video record his Bloomington presentation as well, and once that’s available I’ll include a link to it from YouTube.
Thanks to all our members who attended this month!
