We’ve had some success with our Introduction to Homeowner Associations for Board Leaders seminars this year. We’ve held five so far, and at least two more are scheduled.  If you’re a new board leader or just want to have a refresher on board responsibilities, our 2-hour format is likely the right choice for you. Plus, it’s free, so there is that!

The two that are scheduled are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and you can RSVP at these links:

Maple Grove Community Center, September 15

Oakdale Discovery Center, September 16

Course description is below. Both are facilitated by Ryan Fargo, former attorney with SJJ Law. You’ll also receive a certificate of completion!

We thank FIRSTSERVICE RESIDENTIAL MN for their funding of this program.

As a HOA board leader, you are a trusted member of your Homeowner Association and your leadership is important. You and your fellow board leaders will govern your HOA, administer its business operations, and promote a community of neighbors. You will have significant authority and fiduciary duties. Your HOA homeowners also have significant rights, protections, and obligations.

While HOAs vary in external characteristics, they are far more alike in the challenges they face and in their need for informed and effective board leadership.

In the Introduction to Homeowner Associations (HOAs) for Board Leaders Seminar we provide a broad review of the foundational knowledge and skills you need to be a successful HOA board leader. You will receive a certificate of completion.

Course Description:

The course is organized into seven modules that total 120 minutes. Course topics include:

1. The Homeowner Association, Laws Affecting HOAs, and HOA Governing Documents

2. HOA Board Authority, Fiduciary Duties, and HOA Management

3. Homeowner Rights, Protections, and Obligations

4. HOA Meetings, Elections, and Recordkeeping

5. HOA Budget, Assessments, Collections, Contracts, and Financial Records
