We track lots of HOA issues, and this recent issue came to our attention and was written up by the Minnesota Reformer. The crux of the issue is yet another roof replacement project that resulted in a large assessment for HOA homeowners in Inver Grove Heights ($16K) in a situation where the property manager used an affiliated roofing company for the shingle replacement with no bids. If true, this is in alignment with the concerns of legislators who are pushing bills on “HOA reform” through the MN House and Senate, with mitigation issues in conflicts of interest gaining broad legislators’ support.
